Mind Over Matrix FX offers free education on two related but different markets: Forex currency pairs and XAUUSD (Gold vs. the US Dollar). Before any strategy, it helps to understand what each one actually is.
Forex (foreign exchange) is the market where one currency is traded against another — for example EURUSD (Euro vs. US Dollar). Price reflects the relative strength of two economies and their currencies against each other.
XAUUSD is not a currency pair. "XAU" is the ISO code for gold, so XAUUSD represents the price of gold quoted against the US Dollar. Gold is a precious metal, and most retail traders access it as a CFD (Contract for Difference) rather than owning physical gold — exact availability depends on your broker and country.
Both markets can be studied with the same market structure, Fibonacci Retracement, RSI momentum, price action and risk-management framework taught throughout this site, and both are sensitive to US Dollar strength. But they are not the same instrument. A currency pair reflects two economies measured against each other. Gold is a physical commodity with its own supply, demand, and safe-haven dynamics that don't apply to a currency pair — it can behave very differently from EURUSD even on the same day.
XAUUSD can move quickly. Gold often produces faster, larger price swings in a shorter time than a typical Forex pair. That added volatility means position sizing and risk management (see Lesson 7) deserve extra attention when trading Gold. Nothing taught here promises profits — every market carries risk, and past behavior never guarantees future results.
